Description
The Château is located in its own park-like gardens in the heart of the "City of Art and History", Laval, founded in 1000 AD and the birthplace in 1844 of artist, Henri Rousseau. Visit the fine Museum of Naïve Art in an 11th century fortified château or tour the château crypt and the keep; take a river cruise on the Mayenne; stroll through Laval and discover its many fine restaurants. Only 90 minutes by train west from Paris or two hours by car on the Autoroute, the Château welcomes you warmly. Built by Monsieur du Chalais, the regional salt tax collector in the late 17th century upon an earlier 16th century structure, the castle has been in the Williot family since 1967. The sincere warmth and enthusiasm of your friendly hosts will certainly impress you, and they will make every effort to ensure a relaxing and pleasant stay at the château, while encouraging you to enjoy the abundant regional attractions. Great care has been taken to maintain the authentic 18th century magnificence of this elegant home, reflecting much love and attention bestowed upon it by its owners. Guest rooms are cheerful, comfortable and beautifully decorated. In reception rooms one will find original carved panelling from the 18th century, and throughout the house are lovely crested marble fireplaces. The impressive dining room with its parquet flooring and high ceilings provides the perfect setting for your choice of a Continental or full English breakfast. The family happily welcomes children as guests. Exquisite gardens will entice you to take quiet walks on the grounds where you will forget that you are in the centre of a small city. A short, pleasant walk from the château brings you into the heart of Laval, along the Mayenne River and to the many interesting shops and enticing restaurants. The Château  will prove to be a perfect home base and reward you with much to see and enjoy at the crossroads of Normandy and Brittany.
