Description
Originally a hunting lodge, the château was later enlarged and has been in the
same family since 1803, used mainly for holidays. Situated near a village in the
hills between Feurs and Yzeron, it has views towards the Lyonnaise Mountains and
is set in 12 acres of peaceful, wooded parkland. It lies about 50km west of
Lyon, 50km from Saint-Etienne, and 20km from Beaujolais.
The château is furnished with family period country furniture and there is a
fireplace in almost all the rooms. There is a sitting room with television, a
dining room that seats 25 people, a library and a well equipped kitchen with,
amongst other things, a dishwasher and microwave. There is also a washing
machine.
Accommodation
The château has eleven pretty and comfortable bedrooms, five with private
bathrooms.
On the first floor:
La Chambre Bleue is a double bedroom and has been recently redecorated.
La Chambre Jaune has also been recently redecorated and has three bateau beds
and an en-suite bathroom with double sinks and a shower.
La Chambre Jerôme has a large double bed.
La Chambre Rose is a children's room with a bateau bed and a divan.
La Chambre de Bon-maman has twin beds and an en-suite bathroom with a wc nearby.
On the second floor:
La Chambre Verte has three bateau beds.
La Chambre Grise has twin beds and a divan for two, and an en-suite bathroom
with bath and wc.
La Chambre Pompadour has two Louis XVI beds.
La Chambre Alfred is a twin room with wrought iron beds.
La Chambre Bernard and Denise has been decorated in rose tones and has twin
beds, a child's bed, and a small bathroom.
La Chambre Marie-Louise is a double room with an en-suite bathroom with bath.
There are large terraces equipped with garden furniture for sunbathing and
relaxing and a swimming pool that is fenced to ensure the safety of young
children.. There is also a tennis court and lovely walks around the grounds.
Activities
Within 5km there are riding stables where you can hire horses for an hour or
a day, and several golf courses. You can find Olympic swimming pools in Feurs,
St Galmier and Montrond and further away are the casinos at Charbonnières and
Montrond-les Bains.
There are all essential shops including a doctor and a pharmacy within about 5km
and a large supermarket, 3km from here.
The Region
Lyon and the surrounding area is well known for its food and there are many good
restaurants where you can eat well. At Roanne is the Troisgros, a Michelin three
star restaurant of great repute, or try some pralulines, brioche stuffed with
pralines, created by the master confectioner, Pralus. At Montrond-les-Bains
there is another restaurant with two Michelin stars and the town is full of
other good restaurants at reasonable prices.
If you have the opportunity, try some saucisson de Lyon, and some of the
excellent local cheeses. This is also Beaujolais wine country and there are many
vineyard caves where you can visit to taste.
The roman churches at Forez and Bastie d'Urfé are worth a visit and at the
wild-life park at Courzieu you can see a variety of birds of prey in flight.
