Accommodation: The entrance hall is dominated by a sweeping oak staircase to
the first floor. The château has been recently restored and is decorated in a
classic contemporary style making it extremely comfortable and welcoming for a
family or groups of friends wanting a total escape from urban life. Children
welcome. Ground Floor: Kitchen - with gas/electric cooker, sink and dishwasher,
table and chairs for 6. Back kitchen area with further sink, fridge/freezer,
washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave. Dining Room - with marble fireplace
and dining table which comfortably seats 12. Main living room - with fireplace,
CD player and French doors leading to the garden. Living room/day room - with
fireplace, television, video, DVD player. Bedroom 1 - large room with double
bed, en-suite shower, WC and washbasin. First Floor: There are five double
bedrooms upstairs laid out to form two ‘wings’ of the house. Bedroom 2 - the
central bedroom has a balcony on to the garden with far reaching views to the
distant Monts de Blond hills. Bedrooms 3 & 4 - are two double bedrooms on each
side of the house. Each ‘tower’ houses 2 luxury bathrooms with shower, washbasin
and WC with limestone tiles and contemporary fittings. The bathrooms are flooded
with natural light through the full height windows and have views on to the
garden. Bedroom 5 & 6 - two double bedrooms. The house has full central heating
(at additional cost in the winter) and seasoned logs are available for fires.
High quality linen and towels are provided. Pool towels are also available. The
house is fully managed during your stay with a daily maid service. Catering (if
required) is flexible, with anything from breakfast through to lunch and dinner
for the whole or just part of your stay - just let us know your requirements!
The original bread oven located in the outbuildings can be lit for an evening of
baking your own pizzas in the traditional way.
Swimming Pool and Gardens: There is a large 12m x 6m pool with roman steps
which is fenced from all accessible sides. The pool uses chlorine-free cleaning
products and is maintained at regular intervals throughout the week. A summer
cover allows the temperature to reach a very comfortable 26-28ºC. For swimming
at night, the pool can be floodlit using the underwater lights. Teak loungers
and a large garden table are situated at the poolside and outdoor cutlery and
safe glasses are available for snacks and picnics. There are six acres (2.5
hectares) of well maintained gardens and meadow, surrounded by walls. The
various mature trees provide a haven of tranquillity and shade during the hotter
months.
Local Activities: The Limousin is best known for its free-flowing and
unspoilt countryside. There are plenty of walks close to the house which you can
explore. Alternatively, there are many sights and activities just a short drive
away: The ‘town’ of Le Dorat (3km) has all the amenities such as a supermarket,
bakeries, butcher, charcuterie, post office, pharmacy, banks, tourist
information office and cinema. A factory shop from Philippe Deshouliers, one of
the Limoges porcelain manufacturers has a good range of white and decorative
china. The church and ancient city walls, built in the 11th Century are noted
for their architectural importance. There is also a choice of restaurants and a
few lively bars where you can mix with the locals. Just 2km from the house is a
“Ferme Auberge” restaurant serving organic specialities direct from the farm,
such as foie gras, guinea fowl and duck. Other restaurants are located in Le
Dorat and Montmorillon or take advantage of dinner at the Château by
arrangement. For sports, the lake of St. Pardoux offers swimming and windsurfing.
Golf is available at St. Junien which is around a 45min drive. Limoges has a lot
to offer in the way of restaurants, porcelain tours and historical buildings.
Oradour-sur-Glane the martyr village from the Second World War is a moving
experience.
